Septage haulers are engaged in the business of safely transporting items which contain sewage. This may include sewage tanks, portable toilets and other items.
In order to act as a hauler of septage for the County of Champaign, you are required to obtain a $10,000 septage hauler surety bond.
This bond is available from our agency both as a new or first time surety bond and a renewal bond.
The purpose of the septage hauler bond is simple enough.
It is a financial guarantee that septage haulers will comply with all environmental, state, local, and federal rules in the transport of sewage in the county.
The bond’s existence protects the county from any acts of harm caused in the transportation of sewage which may in turn cause damage to the county up to the bond’s $10,000 requirement amount.
As such, the bond is not an insurance policy for your business. Its benefit is strictly for the protection of the Champaign, Ohio.
If the Champaign County were paid a claim on your bond, it would be your legal responsibility to reimburse the surety for all costs and fees involved in the settlement of the claim.
Regardless of when the septage hauler bond is purchased, its expiration date is December 31st.
Depending on when the bond is purchased, the expiration date may be for the end of that year or the end of the following year.
In order to continue operating as a septage hauler within the county, the bond will therefore need to be renewed on an annual basis.
The premium for the septage hauler bond is just $100 annually.
The bond can be issued immediately after completion of an application for timely filing with the county.
