2022 Update: We are no longer offering any contractor-related surety bonds for the city of Cleveland, Ohio.

Cleveland HVAC & Refrigeration Contractors

HVAC and refrigeration contractors who provide services in the city of Cleveland must be licensed and bonded.

The bond amount required is a $25,000 surety bond, which is available from AmeriPro Surety Bonds as a both a first time and renewal bond.

Qualifying and the Premium

You are automatically approved for this $25,000 surety bond.  There is no credit check and the premium is just $250 for a full year.  Since your bond expires on 12/31, the bond's premium may be prorated as to price depending on the date of the purchase.

The process to obtain your bond is both simple and fast.  When you call us, we'll ask you the following:

  • The name, exactly as you'd like it to reflect on your surety bond.  We'll also need your contact information, to include your address, email and phone number;
  • If you have a DBA name, we'll request that as well.

After payment of the premium, our agency issues your surety bond and Power of Attorney form to you immediately.  Upon receipt, you'll sign your bond as Principal, filing it with the Power of Attorney form to:

City of Cleveland, Department of Building & Housing

601 Lakeside Avenue, Room 505

Cleveland, OH 44114

***Premium Prepayment Options***

Our agency also offers you the option to prepay your bond up to 3 years (premium at the standard rate will renew annually).  Doing so save you slightly over annual renews.  The premium prepayment amount and savings are as follows:

  • If prepaid for 2 years, the premium is $450, a $50 savings;
  • If prepaid for 3 years, the premium is $650, a $100 savings.

Cleveland HVAC & Refrigeration Bond: The Purpose

The purpose of the HVAC and refrigeration contractor bond is a financial guarantee that ensures that you will conduct your business in accordance with the Codified Ordinances of the City of Cleveland.

The bond’s protections for the city of Cleveland and its residents extend also to any employees and subcontractors whom you hire and who perform HVAC or refrigeration work within the city.

The bond furthermore is a financial guarantee that work hired for will be begun and completed; that the city of Cleveland will be held harmless for any failure to perform work according to code; and that the city will be held harmless for any injuries caused by substandard work by a licensed and bonded contractor.

But the surety bond is not insurance.

In the event that a claim is filed against your bond and judged credible, it is your obligation to reimburse the surety in full for all costs and fees involved in the settlement of your claim.

Cleveland HVAC & Refrigeration Bond: Expiry Date

The expiration of the Cleveland HVAC and refrigeration bond by statute is December 31st.

The bond must be renewed each year as a condition of licensing with the Cleveland and remaining eligible to perform contractor work within the city.

Additionally, there are insurance (non-surety bond) requirements of licensed HVAC contractors.
