Contractors who wish to work in the Village of Highland Hills must register with the village by providing:
The purpose of the Highland Hills contractor bond is a financial guarantee in favor of the city and its residents that a contractor will work in compliance with the village’s Building Code and any other relevant Ohio state laws.
The bond protects the village from any breach by a contractor, or the failure of a contractor to produce work which meets the Building Code.
By means of the surety bond, the city is held harmless by a contractor (and any employees or subcontractors) who produce work which is substandard, or has the potential to cause physical harm.
Ultimately, the contractor (known as the principal) is responsible for any claims paid against the surety bond were this to occur.
This means that a contractor is legally liable to reimburse a surety for all costs and fees in the resolution of any claim made by the city.
The cost for the $25,000 contractor bond may be as little as $125 annually.
The amount that you will be required to pay, however, will be determined by an application. No applicant will likely be asked to pay above $250 a year for this bond.
After the bond’s purchase, the bond is mailed to your address within one business day for filing with the city (only an original may be filed with the city). Their address is:
Village of Highland Hills
ATTN: Building Department
3700 Northfield Road, Ste. 21

By statute, once issued, the Highland Hills contractor bond has a term which ends on December 31st of the year in which it is issued.
