Court Costs – Colorado

If you have been informed that you are required to obtain a court cost surety bond for the state of Colorado, you may likely be a bit confused as to why you particularly must obtain this bond.

The bond is a statutory requirement based on Article 16 § 13-16-101 of the Colorado Revised Statutes.

Fortunately, the Colorado court cost bond has a limit — $5000 — and the purchase of the bond is very low — $100, annually.

You will need to provide us with the name of the court and the court’s address for the bond’s obligee.

Court Cost Bond

The following persons who are initiating a cause of action may be required, at the request of the defendant, or the court, to obtain a Colorado court cost bond.

  • A plaintiff who is a non-resident of Colorado initiating a case in Colorado. Also, if during the case you become a non-resident of the state;
  • AND, whom the court believes may be unable to pay the costs related to the suit.

The purpose of this bond is to ensure that all costs to the court will be paid by you in a timely manner.
