Alaska Specialty Contractor Bond
AmeriPro Surety Bonds
Licensing of Certain Contractors – Alaska
Contractors in Alaska who have the designation of “specialty” contractors include mechanical and electrical contractors.
In accordance with the law, you are required to obtain a $10,000 surety bond as a condition of licensing.
Qualifying and the Premium
For specialty, electrical, and mechanical contractors, qualifying for the $10,000 Alaska is automatic as there is no credit check. You are therefore approved when calling. The premium for this bond is $300 annually.
When you call us, we’ll need the name exactly as it should appear on your bond. And, we’ll ask you for your contact information.
After payment of the $300 premium, our agency issues your bond to you immediately, along with a Power of Attorney (POA) form. Upon receipt, you’ll sign your bond as Principal, filing it with all documents received to the following address:
State of Alaska
Construction Contractors Program
P.O. Box 110806
Juneau, AK 99811-0806
Premium Prepayment Options
Your $300 premium for the specialty contractor bond renews annually on the anniversary of its issuance. Our agency also offers you the option to prepay your bond up to 3 years. Prepayment of your premium offers you a savings over annual renewals.
The premium prepayment savings and amounts are as follows:
- If prepaid for 2 years, a $60 savings, and $540 premium;
- If prepaid for 3 years, a $120 savings, and a $780 premium.
Purpose of Your Surety Bond Requirement
This surety bond is required in accordance with Alaska statutes 08.18.071 and 08.18.101, as amended.
The former statute is a guarantee of your payment of all taxes which become due in connection with your work; and that you will pay for all material, supply, and any rents which become due in connection with your contracting duties.
