Licensing of Private Investigators; Surety Bond and Purpose
Private investigators in Arizona are licensed and regulated by the state’s Department of Public Safety.
A condition of licensing is that you obtain a $2500 surety bond pursuant to Arizona Revised Statutes title 32-2401. The purpose of the surety bond is to provide a guarantee that you will be in compliance with all private investigator laws, regulations, and procedures, as amended; and that, furthermore, you’ll hold the Department of Public Safety harmless from the violations of these laws.
Such guarantees extend may also extend to any employees and those whom you hire in connection with your work.
Qualifying and the Premium
You are automatically approved for the $2500 Arizona private investigator bond. The premium is $100 annually, and there is no credit criteria to qualify.
When you call us, we’ll ask you the name as it should appear on your surety bond. The name will match any other paperwork that you’ll be filing with the Department; so, it will not necessarily be your first and last name.
After providing us with your contact information and paying the premium, we issue your surety bond to you immediately. We will also have your bond notarized as Surety; upon receipt, you’ll have your bond notarized as Principal.
It is the original surety bond that you’ll file with the Department at the following address:
Arizona Department of Public Safety
2102 West Encanto Blvd.
P.O. Box 6328
Phoenix, AZ 85005-6328
Premium Prepayment Options
As issued, your private investigator bond renews annually on the anniversary of its issuance.
You may prepay your bond for 2 or 3 years, thereby offering you a savings over annual renewals.
The premium prepayment option and savings are as follows:
- If prepaid for 2 years, the premium is $180, a $20 savings;
- If prepaid for 3 years, the premium is $260, a $40 savings.
