Licensing of California Rental Listing Services
California prepaid rental listing services (PRLS) are businesses which provide a list of residential properties available for rent. These businesses also collect fees for the listings either at the same time or in advance.
Such business are regulated by the California Department of Real Estate. Among other requirements, a prerequisite for licensing is that you obtain a $10,000 surety bond.
The $10,000 surety bond is required for each location; and the requirement is that you obtain a separate surety bond for each place of business.
Qualifying and the Premium
You are automatically approved for each $10,000 California prepaid rental listing service bond that you require. There is no credit inquiry nor an underwriter review; the premium is $100 annually.
If you choose to purchase your bond amount for 2 years, which coincides with your licensing term, the premium is $180, which is a savings of $20.
Bear in mind that, again, a $10,000 surety bond is required for each business location.
When you call us, obtaining your bond is very easy.
We’ll just ask you the name and address that you’d like on your bond. After payment of the premium, our agency will issue the following documents: Your surety bond, which will also include a notarized document from us as Surety; and a Power of Attorney form.
