Licensing of California Yacht and Ship Brokers
The California Division of Boating and Waterways is the state regulatory body concerned with the licensing of yacht and ship brokers.
Persons working in this profession will be governed by the Yacht and Ship Brokers Act, and will be required to furnish a $15,000 surety bond as a prerequisite for licensing.
Qualifying and the Premium
Applicants for the $15,000 California yacht and ship broker bond are automatically approved through our agency without a credit check inquiry or underwriter review.
The premium is $150 annually.
When you call us, we’ll just ask you for the name that should appear on your surety bond; and, we’ll need your address, phone number, and email.
After payment of the premium, our agency issues your bond along with the following (all documents must be the original): A jurat form notarized by us as Surety, and a Power of Attorney form.
Upon receipt in the mail, you’ll sign your bond as Principal, but will need to have your signature notarized as well.
All completed original documents will be mailed to:
Department of Parks and Recreation – Division of Boating and Waterways
One Capitol Mall – Suite 500
Sacramento, CA 95814
