New Castle County Contractor Licensing

The New Castle County, Department of Land Use, requires a number of contracting entities to obtain a surety bond as a condition of performing work within the county. Our agency provides the required surety bond across all Classes (A,B,C,U) and categories.

Among these are decorative appliance contractors who are required to furnish a $10,000 surety bond. Qualifying is very easy. Your bond is typically set to run from January 1st through December 31st. Because of this bond’s small premium amount ($100), it is not prorated if you purchase it, say, mid-year.

Qualifying and the Premium

You are automatically approved for the $10,000 New Castle County decorative appliance contractor bond. The premium will cost you just $100 annually, and there is no credit check.

When you call us, we’ll just ask you the basics: The name, exactly as it should appear on your surety bond, along with your contact information. Such information will include your address, email, and phone number.

We’ll also ask you your business title.

After payment of the premium, the bond is issued to you and mailed by the following business day along with a Power of Attorney (POA) form.

Upon receipt, you’ll sign your bond as Principal, filing it along with your (POA) form to:

Premium Prepayment Options

Although this bond ends on December 31st and renews on January 1st, our agency offers you the option to prepay your surety bond premium up to 3 years.

Prepayment of the premium saves you over annual renewals besides lengthening the time between those renewals.

The premium prepayment option and savings are as follows:

  • If prepaid for 2 years, the premium is $180, a $20 savings;
  • If prepaid for 3 years, the premium is $260, a $40 savings.

Purpose of Your Surety Bond Requirement

This surety bond is a financial guarantee that you will pay all fees, charges, and penalties assessed by the County in connection with work performed; and that you will be in professional compliance with Delaware, local, and federal laws in the course of your business.
