Georgia public adjusters must complete an application ($15) and pay a licensing fee ($100) to the state’s Office of Commissioner of Insurance as two of the conditions for licensing.
Georgia public adjusters are also required to furnish the state’s insurance department with a $5000.00 surety bond.
This bond is available as an “instant issue” surety bond for just $100.00 annually.
The purpose of the Georgia public adjuster bond is a financial guarantee which ensures your compliance with all statutes and rules relevant to the duties incumbent on a public adjuster.
Specifically, the bond is a financial pledge that you will be in compliance with Section 33-23-6 of the Georgia Insurance Code Annotated, and Section 120-2-3 of the Regulations Regarding Agents, Subagents, Counselors, Adjusters, etc….
The bond protects others, namely the people of the state of Georgia and the insurance department for any failure on your part ---whether through negligence or malfeasance --- to be in compliance with any and all statutes governing the public adjuster profession which in turn causes some harm.
Ultimately, however, as the principal for the public adjuster bond, you are responsible for reimbursing the surety for the costs of any funds paid to settle a claim against you.
The Georgia public adjuster bond will cost you just $100 annually.
As we mentioned above, the bond is “instant issue”. What this means is that there is no underwriting nor a credit check involved to determine the premium for this bond.
After completion of the application and payment of the $100 annual premium, the bond will be issued to you immediately. (Only an original bond may be filed with the department; the bond will therefore be mailed to you by the next business day).
The GA public adjuster bond is active for one year from the date of issuance; thereafter, the bond must be renewed as a condition of keeping your license current.
