Hawaii Private Detectives and Guards

The Hawaii Board of Private Detectives and Guards requires agencies to obtain a $5000 surety bond as a condition of licensing. The bond is required of individuals and corporations, partnerships, joint ventures, LLC’s, and LLP’s.

Meeting the surety bond requirement through our agency will take just a few minutes.

Qualifying and the Premium

You are automatically approved for the $5000 Hawaii private detective/guard agency bond. There is no application as is typically required with surety bonds and there is no credit check.

Instead, when you call us we’ll ask you the following information:

  • The name of your business and the business address;
  • Contact information for your business including your email and phone number;
  • Whether your surety bond will be for a guard/agency or private detective/agency;
  • Your name and your title.

After providing this information and paying the $100 annual premium, our agency issues this bond to you immediately. The bond is sent to you by the following business day and upon receipt you’ll sign your bond as Principal before filing with the HI Department of Consumer Affairs.

Their address is:

State of Hawaii Board of Private Detective & Guards

Department of Commerce & Consumer Affairs

Honolulu, HI 96801

Premium Prepayment Options

At $100 premium, your private detective/guard surety bond is active for a one year period; thereafter, your bond renews on the anniversary of its issuance.

You also have the option to prepay your bond up to 3 years, which will save you over renewing annually.

The premium prepayment amount and savings are as follows:

  • If prepaid for 2 years, the premium is $180, a $20 savings;
  • If prepaid for 3 years, the premium is $260, a $40 savings.

Purpose of Your Surety Bond

The purpose of your surety bond requirement is to protect members of the public from damages sustained by the unlawful actions of detectives or guards in the performance of their professional duties. This is in accordance with Chapter 463 of the Hawaii Revised Statutes.
