Notaries – Kansas

The Kansas Secretary of State licenses and regulates notaries. According to state rules, you must be at least 18 years old,live in Kansas or a state which borders it, and be free from any felony convictions.

You are also required to obtain a $7500 Kansas notary bond.

Qualifying and the Premium

The $7500 Kansas notary bond will cost you just $50. The bond is a onetime premium for the duration of your term or appointment, a total of 4 years.

When you call us, to obtain the bond, our agency will need the following from you:

  • The term of your commission. This is crucial because if the term on your bond does not exactly correspond with the term of your commission, the bond will be rejected by the Secretary of State;
  • Your name and address;
  • Whether your appointment is a new appointment or re-appointment;
  • For re-appointments, if your name has changed since the first appointment, the applicant name change.

After this, once the premium of $50 has been paid, our agency will issue the bond to you immediately. The original bond which, in the format provided by the Kansas Secretary of State will be sent to you for completing.

Purpose of your Bond

The Kansas notary bond is a financial guarantee that you will be in compliance with all laws and regulations regarding notarial acts.

Note that it is not a type of liability insurance policy. The bond protects your customers – not you as a notary – from harmful or illegal notarial acts. The difference is substantial.
