Surety Bond; Purpose
Cement finishing contractors are required to obtain a $10,000 surety bond as a condition of performing contractual work in Minneapolis.
The surety bond, required pursuant to Chapter 277.3030 of the city’s statutes, serves as a financial guarantee that you will be in compliance with all statutes regarding cement finishing; and that you will that you will refund any unfinished contract work in accordance with the limitations stated within the statute.
Your bond may be canceled by 30 days’ notice to the city.
Qualifying and the Premium
Before calling, know that you are automatically approved for the $10,000 Minneapolis cement finishing contractor bond.
There is no credit check or underwriter review, and the premium is $100 annually. We’ll take the application directly from you by phone.
The application consists of the basics: The name of your business or your personal name as it should reflect on your bond. We’ll also need your contact information, including an email address.
After payment of the $100 annual premium, we’ll issue your bond to you immediately.
Included with your bond will be a Power of Attorney form. You’ll sign your bond as Principal upon receipt, and then you’ll file your bond, along with the POA to:

Premium Prepayment Options
The $10,000 Minneapolis cement finishing contractor bond is issued for a standard one year term.
You may also choose to prepay the premium associated with your bond for 2 or 3 years. Prepayment of the premium will offer you a savings over annual renewals.
The premium prepayment option and savings are as follows:
- If prepaid for 2 years, the premium is $180, a $20 savings;
- If prepaid for 3 years, the premium is $260, a $40 savings.
