Nebraska Notaries – Licensing
The Nebraska Secretary of State provides candidates who are interested in a becoming a notary with an exam which is to be taken in your home, but without the assistance of anyone else.
After passing the exam, you will submit the notary application along with the $15,000 surety bond. The premium for your bond is good for the length of your 4 year commission.
Qualifying and the Premium
Issuing your $15,000 Nebraska notary bond is very easy. When you call us, we’ll need the following items from you:
- The date of your commission. This is a 4 year period, but we will need the exact dates;
- Your name and address, email address and phone number;
- The city or town where you live;
- The county that you live in.
After payment of the onetime premium of $50, our agency issues your Nebraska notary bond for the length of your 4 year commission term.
Once issued, we will you mail you your surety bond, which you’ll need to sign as Principal, and a Power of Attorney form. You’ll file both items along with your other paperwork to the Secretary of State.
A copy of the surety bond can be emailed to you at your request; however it is the original bond that you’ll want to file.

The Nebraska notary bond does not protect you. Rather, your notary surety bond protects consumers and the state of Nebraska from negligent and illegal acts committed by a licensed notary in the course of notarial duties.
