The North Dakota Department of Transportation requires auto dealers to obtain a surety bond as one of the prerequisites to licensing.

The surety bond is required across many licensing categories, including:

  • New and used auto dealers;
  • Trailer dealers;
  • Motor-powered recreational dealers;
  • Mobile home and manufactured home dealers

Qualifying and the Premium




You are automatically approved for the $25,000 North Dakota motor vehicle dealer bond. There is no credit check nor underwriter review. The premium is just $250 annually, 1%.

When you call us, we’ll ask you for the following:

  • The name, exactly as it should appear on your surety bond.
  • Your contact information, which is to include your address, email, and phone number.

After payment of the premium, $250, our agency issues this bond to you immediately.

Your bond, along with a Power of Attorney (POA) form and a notarized surety form will be sent to you. Upon receipt, you’ll have notarized and sign your surety bond as Principal, filing all documents received.

Premium Prepayment Options




At $250, the premium associated with your North Dakota surety bond is active for one year. Thereafter, it will renew.
