South Dakota Surplus Lines Licensing
The South Dakota Division of Insurance regulates and approves surplus lines brokers, requiring proof of a $2000 surety bond as a condition of licensing.
Meeting the surety bond requirement will take a few minutes with our agency. The bond is a requirement for South Dakota resident surplus lines brokers.
Qualifying and the Premium
You are automatically approved when you call our office for the $2,000 South Dakota surplus lines broker bond. The premium is just $100 annually.
When you call us, we’ll ask you your name, as it should appear on you bond, along with your address, phone number, and email address.
After payment of the $100 premium, your surety bond is issued to you immediately and mailed to you for filing.
Upon receipt, you’ll sign your bond as Principal, and then file it to:

Premium Prepayment Options
Your surplus lines broker bond renews annually as also the premium. Our agency offers you the option to prepay your premium for 2 or 3 years. Doing so offers you a savings over annual renewals.
The premium prepayment options and savings are as follows:
- If prepaid for 2 years, the premium is $180, a $20 savings;
- If prepaid for 3 years, the premium is $260, a $40 savings.
