Dismantlers / Parts Recycler – Alabama

The Alabama Department of Revenue is charged with the licensing and regulation of the state’s automotive dismantlers/recyclers. Filing for the license is completed electronically.

The licensing term runs from October 1st through September 30th. The required surety bond should ideally have dates which match your licensing term. If they do not, the bond may be prorated as to premium.

Obtaining this surety bond from our agency is perhaps the easiest part of the licensing process, but it is still crucial; the Department will not grant you a license nor renew an existing one with it.

Amount of Surety Bond Required – Qualifying – Premium

The Alabama automotive dismantler and parts recylcler bond is now a $25,000 surety bond. This surety bond was formerly a $10,000 bond/

Qualifying for this bond is by completion of a surety bond application (which can be completed over the phone with the assistance of an agent), and payment of the $250 annual premium.

There is neither a credit score inquiry nor standard underwriting procedure.

Once the application is complete and the premium paid, our agency can email you a copy of the surety bond for no additional charge. The original surety bond with our signature – and which you will also need to sign as Principal — will be sent in the mail by the same or the following business day.

Whenever possible, it’s always preferable to file the original surety bond.

Purpose of Your Surety Bond

In general, the bond is a financial guarantee which ensures your compliance with all laws, regulations, and any future amendments concerning automotive dismantling or parts recycling throughout Alabama.

More specifically, the bond guarantees your compliance with the Code of Alabama 1975, Title 40, Chapter 12, Sections 410-425. If you click on this link, it is at the bottom of the page, beginning with Article 9 which details your obligations and duties.
