Miscellaneous Land Use Permit
According to the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, land use permits allow you to use Alaska land for a variety of purposes, and for a period of between 1 – 5 years.
The surety requirement is a $100,000 bond in favor of the state. The bond is also referred to as an Alaska Statewide Miscellaneous Land Use Bond. Your bond is issued for a one year term.
Qualifying and the Premium
Qualifying for the Alaska miscellaneous land use bond requires an application, which we’ll take from you over the phone.
As part of the application process, a credit check is required. Our surety (and, in fact, all agencies — not just our own) uses a “soft pull” which does not affect your credit score.
Approval for this bond will require good credit; it will either be very difficult otherwise, or your application will most likely be denied entirely without it.
Approval for this bond is typically at about 1%.
Once issued, the bond is sent to you for filing along with a Power of Attorney form. Upon receipt in the mail, you’ll sign your bond as Principal and file it along with your Power of Attorney form to:
State of Alaska
Department of Natural Resources, Division of Oil & Gas
550 W. 7th Avenue, Suite 1100
Anchorage, AK 99501-3563
Annual Renewal of Your Bond and the Premium
As mentioned above, your bond is issued for a one year period and will renew on the anniversary of its issuance. A current and active bond must be on file for as long as your permit and the state of Alaska require it.
Purpose Of Your Surety Bond Requirement
Your miscellaneous land use bond is required as a financial guarantee for those have a lawful right (i.e. the state of Alaska; and/or any land owners) to monetary compensation as stated under Alaska Statute 38.05.130, as amended.
