Transfer of Vehicle Title – Alaska
If you have purchased or plan on purchasing a vehicle and there’s no proof of ownership (i.e. the title is missing), the Alaska DMV requires you to obtain a 3-year surety bond. In return for doing so, you will be provided what is known as a “bonded title”.
Amount of Surety Bond Required
According to Alaska law, the amount of the Alaska vehicle title surety bond must be 1 ½ times the appraised value of your vehicle. We’ll need to you to provide us with the amount when you call us; we cannot the determine the amount for you.
Preparing for Your Alaska Certificate of Title Bond
Before obtaining your certificate of title surety bond, you’ll need to do two things:
- The first is to have your vehicle inspected by an employee at the DMV. This is Form 811. The will likely inform you of the amount of surety bond required.
- The second is that your vehicle must be in the state of Alaska.
