If you have purchased or plan on purchasing a vehicle and there’s no proof of ownership (i.e. the title is missing), the Alaska DMV requires you to obtain a 3-year surety bond. In return for doing so, you will be provided what is known as a "bonded title".
According to Alaska law, the amount of the Alaska vehicle title surety bond must be 1 ½ times the appraised value of your vehicle. We’ll need to you to provide us with the amount when you call us; we cannot the determine the amount for you.
Before obtaining your certificate of title surety bond, you’ll need to do two things:
Our agency provides the Alaska vehicle title surety bond in whatever amount you require.

Regardless of the amount of surety bond required, when you call us, we’ll ask you the following:
After payment of the premium, our agency issues your bond to you immediately. Along with your surety bond, we will include: 1. a notarized document from us as Surety; and 2. A Power of Attorney form.
Upon receipt, you’ll have notarized your bond, and along with our notary and your Power of Attorney form, you’ll file it to:
State of Alaska
Division of Measurement, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement
Anchorage, AK 99515
The premium payment for your vehicle title surety bond is a onetime payment and the bond is good for 3 years, as required by Alaska law.
