Arizona Aircraft Dealer License
In Arizona, an aircraft dealer is one who either assists others in the procurement of an aircraft, for pay; or, one who buys, sells, or exchanges aircraft for compensation.
Aircraft dealers must be licensed by the Arizona Department of Transportation (AZDOT)
Applicants who are interested in becoming licensed as an Arizona aircraft dealer should keep the following in mind:
Arizona aircraft dealers who sell an aircraft must notify the AZDOT within 10 days of the purchase, sale, or exchange of an aircraft in order to be in compliance with state law.
Failure to abide by the above rules, can subject an AZ aircraft dealer to tax penalties as found under AZ 28-8335.
In order to be licensed as an Arizona aircraft dealer, a surety bond in the amount of $10,000 must be obtained.
The $10,000 bond is issued on behalf of the AZDOT.
The bond protects the AZDOT and any potential customers from any wrongful, criminal, or negligent acts which may be committed by an Arizona aircraft dealer in the performance of their duties.
The bond issued for a period of one year; thereafter the bond is renewed.
Although the bond is issued for $10,000, Arizona aircraft dealer applicants will only pay a fraction of that bond amount.
In ideal credit situations, the bond amount required may be as little as $150 annually; however, the ultimate amount of the bond will be determined by an applicant’s credit score.
