Licensing of California Job Listing Service Businesses

Job listing services in California are regulated by the California Secretary of State.

According to current rules, job listing services businesses require a separate $10,000 surety bond for each location of the business. The surety bond amount may not be combined as one bond representing all locations.

Qualifying and the Premium

As an applicant, your business is automatically approved for the $10,000 California job listing service bond. There is neither an underwriter review nor a credit check; and therefore you are automatically approved.

Issuing your surety bond, whether one or several is easy, taking only a few minutes. The premium, charged separately is $100 annually.

When you call us, we’ll ask you very basic questions:

  • The name of your business as it should appear on your bond. If you also have a DBA name, we’ll need that as well;
  • Your contact information, which, besides your address and phone number, will include an email.

After payment of the $100 premium, our agency issues your bond to you immediately, but it is the original surety bond that you’ll file with the Secretary of State.

Upon receipt in the mail, you’ll sign your bond as Principal and file it to:

State of California

P.O. Box 944225

Sacramento, CA 94244-2250

Premium Prepayment Options

Your job listing services surety bond is issued with a standard one year term and renews annually. Your bond(s) may be prepaid up to 3 years, thereby offering you a savings over annual renewals.

The premium prepayment option and savings are as follows:

  • If prepaid for 2 years, the premium is $180, a $20 savings
  • If prepaid for 3 years, the premium is $260, a $40 savings.

Purpose of Your Surety Bond Requirement

This surety bond serves as a financial guarantee that you’ll pay any money that becomes due in connection with your profession; and that, also, you’ll pay any fines or fees levied against you for violation of any rules or laws.
