Miramar Deferred Payment Account – Surety Bond and Purpose
As an alternative to paying for each visit to the Miramar landfill, in San Diego County, businesses and individuals are provided with the option to obtain a surety bond.
The surety bond option is referred to as a deferred payment account surety bond. Detailed information, along with FAQ and an application can be found at the link.
The purpose of this surety bond is to serve as a financial guarantee for Miramar Landfill, that in lieu of collecting payments immediately upon each visit to the landfill, that the payments may be deferred for a period of 17 days from each billing period.
In other words, the bond is a guarantee – a surety – that any amounts owed will be paid in a timely manner and within that 17-day period.
Qualifying and the Premium
When calling our agency, we’ll need you to provide us with the amount of surety bond required. Although the minimum requirement listed is $250, our minimum is typically $1000.
Our agency will take the application from you over the phone; and upon approval of your surety bond, we’ll have you sign the agreement.
The following is what we’ll ask you of you:
- The basics: The name of your company as it should reflect on your surety bond. This name should match any other paperwork you’ll be filing with the city. And of course, your contact information;
- We’ll also ask if you have any unsatisfied lawsuits or judgments against you; whether you have ever filed bankruptcy; or if you have any collection items or liens;
- We’ll also need your name, your address and other information;
- We’ll need your social security number.
To note, there is a credit check. After providing us with the information needed, your application is electronically submitted to our underwriter.
Approval is based on satisfactory credit; and, if approved, the rate will be 1.5% or 2% of the surety bond amount.
Please note: Premiums paid for your surety bond are earned in full regardless of how often or how few times you intend to use the landfill.
Issuing Your Bond; Term
After approval of your Miramar landfill deferred payment account bond and payment of the premium, our agency issues your bond to you immediately.
The bond and a Power of Attorney form will be sent to you by mail. Upon receipt, you’ll have your bond notarized as Principal and then file it to:
City of San Diego
Environment Services Department

Your surety bond is active for one year period and will renew thereafter. The bond can be increased, if need be, within its active period by attaching a Ryder, and paying any additional premium required.
