Outfitter Surety Bond – Colorado

The Colorado outfitter bond is also known as a ‘fish and game guide’ surety bond. The outfitter license is available to both individuals and companies; however, the surety bond is required of companies only.

This surety bond must be in the name of your corporation, partnership, or LLC, etc. The Colorado Division of Registrations, this surety bond’s obligee, will not accept the bond in another format.

For partnerships, all partners must be listed on the surety bond. This is an additional requirement of the Office of Licensing.

Colorado Outfitter Bond: Amount of Surety Bond Required and Qualifying

The Colorado outfitter bond is a $10,000 surety bond which is required by statute.

Qualifying couldn’t be any easier. After completion of a surety bond application (which can be taken over the phone), and payment of the premium, the bond is issued to you immediately.

The outfitter bond premium is just $100 annually.

Unlike many other surety bonds, there is no credit inquiry for this bond; it is an instant issue.

Once issued an emailed copy of the bond can be sent to you, and the original will follow in the mail by the same or the following business day.

Other Premium Payment Options

The Colorado outfitter bond is issued with a standard term of one year; however, the bond may be prepaid up to 3 years. While entirely at your discretion, prepayment allows you a savings over year to year renewal of the surety bond premium.

Prepayment options are as follows:

  • Prepayment for 2 years, $180;
  • Prepayment of 3 years, $260.

The Purpose of this Surety Bond Requirement

The outfitter surety bond is a financial guarantee that you will be in compliance with all laws regarding fish and game licensing in Colorado.  This especially refers to Article 55.5, Chapter 12 of the Colorado Revised Statutes.

As principal of this bond, you are responsible for any claims paid against your surety bond, if such were ever the case.
