Florida Yacht and Ship Brokers
Professionals who are Florida yacht and ship brokers or salesmen are regulated by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
The surety bond amount required of yacht and ship professionals is in one of two amounts.

Qualifying and the Premium
You are automatically approved for either the $10,000 or $25,000 surety bond amount. This is because our agency offers these bonds without a credit check inquiry. Both surety bonds are issued for 2-year terms. The premium is as follows:
- $10,000 – $180 for 2 years;
- $25,000 – $450 for 2 years.
When you call us, we’ll ask some very basic information: the name as it should appear on your surety bond. And, we’ll need your contact information to include your email, business phone number and mailing address.
Once the premium is paid, your yacht ship broker surety bond and a Power of Attorney from are sent to you.
Upon receipt by mail, you’ll sign your bond as Principal, filing all documents to:

Florida Yacht and Ship Broker Bond: Purpose of this Surety Bond
The purpose of both the $10,000 surety bond for salespersons, and the $25,000 surety bond for brokers is the same.
The bond is to protect customers from any acts of fraud, theft, or criminal conduct committed by the licensee in the performance of their duties as salespersons or brokers.
The bond is purchased by you, but the bond is for the protection of others; the surety bond does not personally protect either a yacht and ship broker or salesperson at all.
The bond is also a prerequisite for the Florida yacht and ship broker license. The state will not issue a license without it.
Florida Yacht and Ship Broker Bond: Duration
Both the broker and salesperson Florida yacht and ship surety bond can be purchased on an annual basis, or prepaid for up to 2 years, thereby offering a savings over annual renewals.
The choice on the time duration is entirely up to you.
Becoming a Florida Yacht and Ship Broker or Salesperson
In addition to the surety bond requirement, if you are becoming licensed as a broker or salesperson of yachts and ships in Florida you will:
- Need to complete an application for the yacht and ship broker license;
- Pay the $551 application fee;
- Obtain fingerprinting.
You will submit the application along with the a signed original of the surety bond.
