Ignition Interlock Providers – Georgia

Georgia ignition interlock providers are licensed and regulated by the Georgia Department of Driver Services.

Ignition interlock providers are required to submit a detailed application to the Department.

As part of the application process, ignition interlock providers are required to furnish proof at least one $10,000 surety bond.

AmeriPro Surety Bonds will help you to obtain the surety bond amount required for filing with the Department.

Georgia Ignition Interlock Provider Center Bond: Amount of Surety Bond Required

According to Georgia law, each location of a Georgia ignition interlock provider will have its own $10,000 surety bond.

One surety bond, however, may be provided to the Department for filing as long as all of the address locations are listed on the surety bond, and the $10,000 bond incremental amounts are accounted for on the bond.

Georgia Ignition Interlock Provider Center Bond: Its Purpose

The purpose of the Georgia ignition interlock surety bond requirement is a financial guarantee which ensures your compliance with all laws and regulations governing the interlock profession in this state.

On the wording of the surety bond, this refers specifically to Georgia Law O.C.G.A. 43-12A-1.

As an ignition interlock installer, you have a legal and fiduciary duty to the customers whom you serve. In a broad sense, the bond protects against acts of theft, fraud, and malfeasance in the course of your duties.

As such, while this surety bond is required of you, its protections and benefits are for the customers whom you serve in your professional duties.

The Premium and Duration of this Surety Bond

The premium may be as little as 1-2% annually for the bond’s face amount. The surety bond requirement is determined by number of locations and is in increments of $10,000.

Besides an application (which may be completed over the phone with an agent) a credit check is a normal part of this premium determining process.

Once issued, the Georgia ignition interlock bond is active for one year from the date of issuance.

The surety bond will be mailed to you by the next business day after its purchase. Only an original surety bond may be filed with the Department.
