Private patrol persons in Idaho Falls are statutorily described as an individual who is contracted or employed by a business to provide guard services in the city. It does not matter whether such services offered are on foot or by vehicle.
Before being licensed, you will need to provide the city with a surety bond. Meeting the surety bond requirement will be the quickest part of your licensing process.
Traditionally the Idaho Falls private patrol service license bond was a $2000 surety bond; however, the more recent municipal statutes states that the amount is set from time to time by the city council (Chapter 6 4-6-9).
For purposes of securing your bond, know the following. For any amount required up to $25,000 surety bond (it is unlikely that it will be anywhere near that much), you are approved automatically without the delay of an underwriter review and a credit check inquiry. This means that you are approved immediately.
The premium, after a short surety bond application which we’ll take from you over the phone --- which typically is just asking for your name, address, and contact information --- will be 1% of the amount required, with a minimum $100 surety bond amount.
After payment of the premium, the bond is issued to you immediately. Your surety bond will be sent to you by the following business day. Before filing, you’ll sign your bond as Principal.
The bond will be filed at the following location:
City of Idaho Falls
Idaho Falls City Clerk (City Hall)
Idaho Falls, ID, 83405
The purpose of this bond as stated within the statutes linked above, is to ensure your compliance with activities related to your profession. Furthermore, false statements on your license or application in addition to unlawful activity constitute legitimate reasons for filing a claim against your bond.
As Principal of this surety bond, if a claim is filed, you are responsible for reimbursing the surety for all costs paid.
