Surety Bond Amount & Purpose

Individual businesses in Indiana may be licensed by the state’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles to share in some of the responsibilities and functions typically conducted at an Indiana BMV location.

Such responsibilities include registering and renewing a vehicle and title services, as outlined in Indiana Code 9-14.1-3-2.

A condition of licensing is that you obtain a $10,000 surety bond. The purpose of this surety bond is to indemnify the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles for any breach of laws, regulations, or rules in the operation of your business.

The surety bond, therefore, serves as a financial guarantee of your compliance with all such rules.

Qualifying and the Premium

You are automatically approved for the $10,000 Indiana partial service license branch bond. Unlike with a lot of other sureties, there is no credit check or underwriter for this bond; and the premium is $100 annually.

Issuing your bond is easy.

When you call us, we’ll just need the name that should appear on your bond. And for our purposes, we’ll also need your contact information. Besides your address, we’ll request your phone number and an email.

After payment of the $100 premium, your partial service license branch bond is issued to you immediately.

We’ll sign your bond as Surety and have it mailed to your address. Upon receipt, you’ll sign your bond as Surety.

Thereafter, you’ll file your surety bond to:

Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles Commission

100 North Senate Avenue

Indianapolis, IN 46204

Premium Prepayment Options

The IN partial service branch surety bond is issued with a standard 1 year term. A current and active surety bond must always remain on file as a condition of licensing.

You may also prepay your bond’s premium up to 3 years, thereby obtaining a savings over annual renewals.

The premium prepayment option and savings are as follows:

  • If prepaid for 2 years, the premium is $180, a $20 savings;
  • If prepaid for 3 years, the premium is $260, a $40 savings.
