Surety Bond & Purpose
Retailers of mobile and/or manufactured homes in Iowa are regulated by the Iowa State Building Code Bureau.
The Bureau requires, as a condition of licensing, that your manufactured/mobile home retailer business obtains a $50,000 surety bond.
This surety bond is a financial guarantee of your compliance with the Iowa Code Chapter 103A, as amended.
More generally, the surety bond is a guarantee that your retailer business will be in compliance with all rules concerning the sales of mobile or manufactured homes in the state; and that it protects the state for the resultant loss or damage caused by non-compliance with these rules.
Qualifying and the Premium
Applicants for the $50,000 Iowa mobile/manufactured home retailer bond will need to complete a very short surety bond application. We’ll begin the application with you by phone, but you’ll need to sign and have your application witnessed.
After returning the application, it is sent to an underwriter for review. To be approved, you’ll need to have good and satisfactory credit.
Approval for your surety bond is offered at 2%, $1000 annually.
Upon approval of your retailer surety bond and payment of the premium, our agency issues your bond to you immediately. Included with your documents will be a Power of Attorney form.

Premium Prepayment Options
Approval is offered at a standard term of 1 year; however, your premium may be prepaid up to 3 years.
Prepayment of the premium, besides lengthening the time between renewals, offers you a savings over annual renewals.
The premium prepayment option and savings are as follows:
- If prepaid for 2 years, the premium is $1800, a $200 savings;
- If prepaid for 3 years, the premium is $2600, a $400 savings.
