The Maryland State Highway Administration requires requires professional haulers of over sized and overweight equipment to obtain a surety bond.
This surety bond, which is a performance surety bond, serves as a financial guarantee which protects Maryland from any damages caused as the result of the move.
The amount of the surety bond will be determined by the State Highway Administration; and therefore, there is no fixed or predetermined amount. The amount will be determined by what you will be moving and other related considerations.
Our agency provides you with the Maryland hauling performance bond in the amount the State Highway Administration requires of you; and up to a $50,000 surety bond requirement, we also do so without a credit check.
Amounts greater than $50,000, if applicable to you, will require both a completed and signed, short surety bond application. As part of the review process by our underwriters, a credit check inquiry is also required.
Approval for these higher amounts is based upon approval of your good credit; and the rate of approval is 1%, annually.
Regardless of the surety bond amount required, once your bond is approved, and the payment made, our agency issues your bond to you immediately.
Included with your surety bond will be a Power of Attorney form.
There will be two signatures on your surety bond. The first is the one by our agency as Surety; the second will be your signature as Principal.
