Designated Agents – Mississippi
The Mississippi Department of Revenue (DOR) licenses and regulates designated agents. The DOR provides a one paged form wherein you’ll see very clearly the importance of the $5000 surety bond requirement.
Fortunately, obtaining the surety bond is very easy, takes a few minutes, and is issued over the phone by our agency.
Qualifying and the Premium
You are automatically approved for the $5000 Mississippi designated agent bond. Qualifying is just by completing a short surety bond application – which we’ll take from you over the phone — and paying the premium of $150.
Note that there is no credit check nor underwriting review for this bond.
Once the bond has been issued our agency will have it sent to you by the following business day. You will need to sign the bond as Principal before filing with the DOR. The Department will only accept an original surety bond which has both our signature and yours.
Additional Premium Payment Options
At $150 premium, your designated agent surety bond is issued for a standard one year term. As stated on the form, an active surety bond must be on file with the DOR at all times to avoid a suspension of your license.
Our agency also offers you the option to prepay your bond for up to 3 years. Prepayment of the premium allows you a savings over renewing each year, besides lengthening the time between renewals.
The premium prepayment amounts and savings are as follows:
- If prepaid for 2 years, the premium is $270, a $30 savings;
- If prepaid for 3 years, the premium is $390, a $60 savings.
Purpose of Your Surety Bond Requirement
The designated agent surety bond is a financial guarantee of your compliance with relevant portions of the Mississippi Motor Vehicle Title Act, as also any amendments to these statutes.
