Surety Bond; Purpose

Missouri proprietary schools are regulated by the state’s Department of Higher Education, according to Division 10, Chapter 5, as amended.

A condition of licensing is that you obtain for the benefit of your students – and the Department – as a financial guarantee that you will be in compliance with all rules and regulations.

If you choose the surety bond requirement, the amount of surety required of you is according to the following formula:

  • 10% of the prior year’s gross tuition;
  • however, regardless of the above, your surety bond requirement will be no less than $5000, and no more than $100,000.

Qualifying and the Premium

Qualifying for the Missouri proprietary school bond includes completing an application – which we’ll begin with you over the phone — but which you’ll need to complete and sign — and having the application completed by Docusign.

After receipt of your completed application, it is is reviewed by our underwriter.

Approval is granted on the basis of a demonstration of satisfactory credit. Once your bond is approved, our agency will take payment from you by phone and have it issued immediately.

We will sign your bond as Surety; upon receipt of your original surety bond and Power of Attorney form by mail, you’ll sign your bond as Principal.

Thereafter, you’ll file your surety bond and Power of Attorney form to:

State of Missouri Coordinating Board

3515 Amazonas Drive

Jefferson City, MO 65109

Surety Bond Term

Your Missouri proprietary school bond is issued for a one year term and will renew on the anniversary of its issuance.

Presumably, you’ll require a different surety bond amount upon renewal and our agency will facilitate having this new bond issued in a quick manner.
