Qualifying and the Premium

For any amount up to and including a $50,000 surety bond requirement, you are automatically approved for the Missoula County excavation bond.

The application is simple enough. When you call us, we’ll just ask you the name exactly as it should appear on your surety bond, along with your contact information.

For the $50,000 surety bond amount, we may ask the location where you will perform excavation.

The premium is 1% of the amount required. A $20,000 surety bond will cost you $200 annually; a $50,000 surety bond will cost you $500 annually.

Once the premium is paid, our agency issues the bond to you immediately. Your bond, along with a Power of Attorney form will be sent to you for filing.

Upon receipt, you’ll sign your bond as Principal, filing all documents provided to:

Missoula County Department of Public Works

Purpose of Your Surety Bond Requirement

As noted in the Missoula County public works manual, page 12, the purpose of your surety bond is a protection for the County that all excavation projects will be performed according to legislative standards.
