Certificate of Title Bond – Nebraska

In Nebraska, a vehicle which requires a certificate of title surety bond is formally known as a “Bonded Certificate of Title”.

According to the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles, you are required to obtain this surety bond whenever:

  • there’s no title history to your vehicle in Nebraska or anywhere else;
  • you already have a certificate of title bond for the same vehicle, but in another state;
  • you can’t provide an assigned Certificate of Title or Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin (MSO).

Obtaining a certificate of title bond in Nebraska comes at the end of a long process described by the Nebraska DMV. By the time you contact our agency, you should be ready to purchase your surety bond.

Questions about procedures other than obtaining your bond should be directed to the Nebraska DMV.

Qualifying and the Premium

Up to and including a $50,000 surety bond amount, qualifying for the Nebraska certificate of title is achieved by completing an application right over the phone with a surety agent.

There will be no credit check involved and the bond will be a onetime premium of 1% ($100 minimum) of the amount required.

For amounts greater than $50,000, the only difference is that there is a credit check involved and you will be required to have good in order to meet approval. The premium will be 1% of the amount required.

The Amount of Your Surety Bond

According to current regulations, the amount of a Nebraska certificate of title bond must be 1 ½ times the value of the vehicle according to property tax valuation or the NADA Guide. You may also contact the Nebraska DMV for help. Our agency will be unable to determine your vehicle’s value.

What’s Needed to Obtain your Bond

In addition to basic information, such as your name and address, we’ll ask the following of you:

  • The county where you live;
  • The make, year, and model of the vehicle;
  • The vehicle’s VIN/hull identification number;
  • Your vehicle’s body type
  • Your vehicle’s color.

For amounts up to $50,000, and after a credit approval for a certificate of title bond greater than $50,000, our agency will issue the bond to you immediately after payment of the premium.

The original surety bond along with a Power of Attorney will be mailed to you for filing with the Nebraska DMV.

You will need to sign your original bond as Principal before filing.

Purpose of Your Bond

The purpose of the certificate of title surety bond is to protect any prior owners or any subsequent owners from the loss which may occur to them as a result of an adverse discovery of something that was previously unknown about the ownership of the vehicle.
