Surety Bond; Purpose
As required by Nevada Revised Statutes, 366.235, businesses operating in the following professions are required to obtain a surety bond:
- fuel suppliers;
- fuel dealers;
- permit vendors;
- special fuel user licensees.
The surety bond requirement is a financial guarantee for the Nevada Motor Carrier Division that you will pay all excise taxes, interest, fees and penalties owed to the state of Nevada.
Qualifying and the Premium
After telling us the amount of your Nevada payment of fuel tax bond required of you, we’ll send you an application for completion.
To facilitate ease of completion, your application can be sent via DocuSign; and for those who prefer, we can email an application. Either application will require your signature.
Upon submission of a completed application, it is then reviewed by a surety bond underwriter. This review includes a credit check inquiry.
For approval, good credit is required.
Approval is offered at $150 annually, or 1% of the surety bond amount required, whichever amount is greater.
Upon approval of your surety bond and payment of the annual premium, our agency issues your surety bond and a Power of Attorney form to you immediately.
You will sign the original surety bond received in the mail. Thereafter, you’ll file your surety bond and POA form to:
State of Nevada
Department of Motor Vehicles
555 Wright Way
Carson City, Nevada 89701
Premium Prepayment Options
Your payment of fuel tax surety bond is issued with a standard one year term. If you don’t anticipate a change in the dollar amount required upon renewal, the option to prepay your bond for 2 or 3 years, is also offered.
Prepayment of the premium offers you a savings over annual renewals.
