New York boxing and MMA promoters need two surety bonds as a condition for licensing. They are described here in no particular order because both must be filed in order to be licensed.
The first is a surety bond for $20,000. This surety bond guarantees that you, as a licensed promoter, will pay the salaries of club employees as required by the Commission.
This bond also serves as a financial guarantee that costs for the printing of tickets and printing materials will be paid.
The second surety bond required is for $10,000. This bond serves as a financial guarantee that as a licensed boxing and MMA promoter, you will follow all rules, statutes, and laws which govern your profession.
If you’ll notice, both surety bonds are solely for the financial protection of others. These are not bonds which protect a New York boxing and MMA promoter, but rather the bonds serve as a financial guarantee against any nonpayment of money and noncompliance with legal statutes.
Were a claim to be paid on either of these surety bonds, it will be the legal responsibility of the principal (the purchaser and owner of the surety bonds) to reimburse the surety for all costs involved in satisfying the claim.
The price you will pay for both of these bonds is a small fraction --- perhaps between 1%-5%, normally, of the bond’s face amount.
Once paid, the bond is issued to you and mailed by the next business day at the latest.
The premium, however, is not a onetime fee. The bond’s premium renews annually and must be kept to run concurrent with the licensing provided by the Commission.
