Mobile Home Manufacturers and Related Professions

Persons involved in the sales and manufacturing of mobile homes in South Carolina are licensed and regulated by the South Carolina Manufactued Housing Board.

A condition of licensing is that the following persons obtain the appropriate surety bond amount:

  • Manufactured home contractor;
  • Manufactured home installer;
  • Manufactured home manufacturer;
  • Manufactured home repairer;
  • Manufactured home retail dealer;
  • Manufactured home salesperson;
  • Multi-lot salesperson.

Amount of Surety Bond Required – Premium Amounts – Qualifying

The breakdown and pricing of the South Carolina mobile home manufacturer bond amounts are as follows:

  • Manufactured contractors, installers, and repairers – $5,000 surety bond – $180;
  • Manufactured home salesperson and multi-lot salesperson – $15,000 surety bond – $180;
  • Manufactured home retail dealers – $30,000 surety bond – $270;
  • Manufacturer – $75,000 surety bond -$675.

With the single exception of the $75,000 manufacturer surety bond, qualifying is simply by completion of an application (which can be done with the help of an agent over the phone), and payment of the required premium. For these amounts, there is neither a credit inquiry nor an underwriting review of the bond. The bond issued immediately upon payment of the premium/

The $75,000 mobile home manufacturer bond will involve a standard review of your surety application and underwriting procedure. Once approved, you will pay the premium as normal and the bond is issued immediately.

The bond will be mailed to you by the same or the following business day.  You will need to sign the original copy.  We can also send a copy of the surety bond to you.

The Surety Bond’s Term

The bond’s term is for a period of 2 years from the date of issuance; thereafter, you will need to renew your surety bond. Ideally, the term of your bond should match the licensing granted by the state of South Carolina.

Purpose of Your Surety Bond

The purpose of this surety bond is a financial guarantee which ensures your compliance with all laws governing all aspects of mobile home manufacturing, service, or sales in South Carolina.

More specifically, the bond is a guarantee of your compliance with Section 40-29-230 (B) (1) of the South Carolina’s statutes.
