Licensing of Charitable Entities
The Vermont charitable solicitations bond may also be referred to as a professional fundraiser bond or a paid fundraiser surety bond.
The $20,000 surety bond requirement is set forth by the state’s Office of the Vermont Attorney General, which is charged with the licensing and registration of Vermont charitable entities.
Qualifying and the Premium
Your charitable entity is automatically approved for the $20,000 Vermont charitable solicitations bond, with an annual premium of $300. There is no credit check for qualifying.
When you call us, we’ll just ask you the name and address which should appear on your bond. The name should match exactly any other paperwork you’ll be filing with the state in connection with licensing or re-licensing.
After payment of the $300 premium, our agency issues your bond to you immediately along with a Power of Attorney (POA) form. These are then mailed to you for signing and filing with the Attorney General.
Their address is:
Office of the Attorney General
109 State Street
Montpelier, VT 05602
Premium Payment Options
Your $300 premium will is standard for one year and renews on the anniversary of your bond’s issuance.
Our agency also offers you the option to prepay your premium up to 3 years, offering you a savings at the same time.
The premium prepayment options and savings are as follows:
- If prepaid for 2 years, the premium is $540, a $60 savings;
- If prepaid for 3 years, the premium is $780, a $120 savings.
Purpose Of Your Paid Fundraiser Bond Requirement
This surety bond is a financial guarantee of your compliance with the Vermont Charitable Solicitations Law, as amended.
The surety bond is for the protection of those who may have a cause of action against a licensed Vermont paid fundraiser as outlined in the state’s legislation.
