Licensing of Vermont Insurance Consultants
Vermont insurance consultants are licensed and regulated by the state’s Department of Financial Regulation. In addition to being at least 18 years old, of good character, and meeting other requirements, you are also required to obtain a $5,000 surety bond.
As per our agency’s verification with the state of Vermont at 808-828-3303 (February 3, 2020), the surety bond requirement is for both resident and non-resident producers.
Qualifying and the Premium
You are automatically approved for the $5000 Vermont insurance consultant bond. The premium is just $100 annually and there is no credit inquiry.
When you call our agency, we’ll ask you the following:
Your name, exactly as it should appear on your surety bond. We’ll also need your contact information. Besides your address, this includes your email and phone number. Finally, we’ll request the county where you live.
After payment of the $100 premium, your bond and a POA form are issued to you.
When the original bond has been received by you, after signing at as Principal, you’ll file it to:

Premium Prepayment Options
The premium for the Vermont insurance consultant bond renews annually. The option also exists to prepay your bond’s premium up to 3 years. Prepayment of the premium offers you a savings over annual renewals.
The premium prepayment amounts and savings are as follows:
- If prepaid for 2 years, the premium is $180, a $20 savings;
- If prepaid for 3 years, the premium is $260, a $40 savings.
