Washington D.C. Title Producer Licensing
Title producer companies in Washington D.C. are licensed and regulated by the District’s Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking (DISB).
The Department currently requires title producers to obtain a $200,000 surety bond as one of the prerequisites for licensing.
Qualifying and the Premium
Qualifying for your $200,000 Washington D.C. title producer bond involves the following:
- completing a short surety bond application;
- providing a recent financial statement (i.e. bank statements will also be helpful) and;
- undergoing a careful review by a surety bond underwriter. This process includes a credit check inquiry.
To be approved through our agency, good credit is necessary.
The approval rate is ½ of 1%, or $1000 annually.
Upon approval of your title producer surety bond and payment of the premium, our agency issues your bond to you immediately.
Along with your surety bond, a Power of Attorney (POA) form is included.
Once received in the mail with our original signature as Surety, you’ll sign your bond as Principal and file it along with your POA form to:
Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking
1050 First Street, NE, Suite 801
Washington D.C., 20002
Premium Prepayment Options
Your title producer bond may be prepaid up to 3 years. Doing so offers you a savings over year to year renewal of your bond’s premium.
The premium prepayment option and savings are as follows:
- If prepaid for 2 years, the premium is $1800, a $200 savings;
- If prepaid for 3 years, the premium is $2600, a $400 savings.
The 3 year limit is the maximum prepayment period allowed by D.C.
