Contractors who are drain layers will need to provide the city’s Engineering Division with evidence of a $4000 surety bond before performing work in the city. This is as per city regulations, §170-4, Section R. Meeting the surety bond requirement through out agency will be the quickest part of your licensing process.
Applicants for the $4000 Meriden drain layer surety bond will complete a short surety bond application --- which we’ll take from you over the phone --- and pay the premium, $100. mThere is no credit check nor underwriter review for this bond.
What this means for you is that once the application is received and the premium paid, the bond is issued to you immediately.
A copy of your surety bond can be sent to you by email for no additional charge. The Engineering Division may or may not accept a copy of your surety bond; you’ll want to confirm with them. The original surety bond, which you’ll sign as Principal, will be sent to you by the following business day, at the latest. It is the original surety bond which should ideally be filed with the city.
The Meriden drain layer bond is active for exactly one year from the date of issuance. A currently active surety bond must be kept on file as a condition of licensing.
As noted within the states, the purpose of the drain layer bond is to serve as a financial guarantee which holds the city of Meriden, Connecticut, harmless for any loss or damages caused by a licensed drain layer.
As principal of this bond, you are responsible to reimburse the surety for any costs and fees associated with the bond.
