Nevada DMV Wrecker Definition

Nevada DMV wreckers are defined as those who, in the course of their business activities, purposely wreck vehicles, dismantle already wrecked vehicles, in accordance with the laws of the state of Nevada.

Parts from wrecked vehicles can sometimes be repaired and sold.

Getting Licensed as a Nevada DMV Wrecker

New applicants for a Nevada DMV wrecker license will want to comply and complete the following:

  • All principals of the DMV wrecker business will need to complete a “personal history” questionnaire. This form will ask about prior job histories; any arrests or convictions, if applicable; and any child support payments which are in arrears;
  • At least one principal of the company will need to complete a business license application, along with payment of a non-refundable $301 application fee;
  • The same applicant will need to provide a 2×2 photograph of themselves (at least) which shows an unobstructed view of the face and shoulders (no “selfies”);
  • Both new and existing Nevada DMV wreckers will need to maintain a business that has a sign with at least 8-inch lettering, which is also at least 1 inch wide. The sign must be permanently affixed to the building;

An applicant for a DMV wrecker license will also need to post a $50,000 surety bond.

Nevada DMV Wrecker Surety Bond

The $50,000 Nevada DMV wrecker bond is required to ensure that businesses which engage in motor vehicle wrecking comply with all state and federal laws.

The laws are designed to protect the state of Nevada and consumers from fraudulent or criminally harmful acts committed by the wrecker licensee or any principals in the conduct of their business operations.

Cost of the Nevada Wrecker Surety Bond

Applicants and renewals of existing DMV wrecker bond-holders will only pay a small fraction of the $50,000 surety amount.

The amount paid, known as the premium amount, will be determined by the applicant’s credit score.
